Shichahai, one of Beijing’s most picturesque areas, is known for its serene lakes and historic charm. Boating here is a popular way to explore the scenic surroundings, including Qianhai (前海), Houhai (后海), and the iconic Yinding Bridge (银锭桥). With several boating options available, this guide will help you plan your experience. Whether you want a peaceful ride in the afternoon or a sunset cruise, here’s everything you need to know for a perfect boating trip on Shichahai.

Opening Hours

The boating facilities at Shichahai are open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The last tickets are sold at 5:00 PM, and all boats must be returned by 6:00 PM. Please note that nighttime boating is only available during the summer months.

Transportation

Shichahai is easily accessible by public transportation. You can reach the area via Metro Lines 6 or 8:

  • Take Line 6 to Beihai North Station and exit from B. This will bring you close to the Haomeng Jiangnan Pier (好梦江南码头) or the Lotus Market Pier (荷花市场码头).
  • Alternatively, take Line 8 to Shichahai Station and exit from A. This will lead you to the Dibai Pier (地百游船码头).

Boat Types and Prices

There are three main types of boats available for rental at Shichahai:

  1. Four-person pedal boat: 180 RMB per hour for the entire boat.
  2. Four-person electric boat: 240 RMB per hour for the entire boat.
  3. Six-person electric boat: 280 RMB per hour for the entire boat.

There are three piers around Qianhai and two in Houhai, with Qianhai being the more accessible:

  1. Haomeng Jiangnan Pier: Located near Lotus Market Plaza, it offers more boats with fewer crowds, making it a top recommendation.
  2. Dibai Pier: Close to Yinding Bridge and the metro station, this pier is popular but often has long lines.
  3. Lotus Market Pier: Located farther from the main attractions, it’s near the Shichahai Cultural Store.

Special Notes

  • All piers are managed under the same system, meaning the operating hours, prices, and boat types are the same at each location.
  • You can return your boat to any pier, regardless of where you rented it.
  • A fun route is to start at Qianhai, pass under Yinding Bridge, and paddle all the way to Houhai. If you time it right, you can enjoy a stunning sunset over Shichahai from your boat.
